Designing a Desktop Wind Tunnel for Airfoil Testing

Date

October 2025 to Current

Role

Engineering Lead

Project type

Engineering Design and Fabrication

Inspired by the University of Washington Aerospace Engineering course, I’m designing a functional desktop wind tunnel to study airflow behavior, lift generation, and wing performance. I’m currently in the CAD phase, modeling the contraction cone, test section, and diffuser in Fusion 360. This stage includes iterating on contraction ratios, smoothing internal contours, and planning for a modular test chamber that can hold different airfoils.

This project is a direct extension of the CAD and subsystem-integration skills I developed through FTC robotics, but applied to aerodynamics. My long-term goal is to use the wind tunnel to design and test custom aircraft wings and validate small-scale aircraft concepts before prototyping full builds.
