Designing a High-Performance Projectile Launcher — FTC Robotics 2025

Date

August, 2025 to Current

Role

Hardware Engineer and Driver

Project type

Robotics

Skills Focus

Leadership, Fabrication, Electrical

In my second season with FTC Team Mayhem (15385), I took on a cross-disciplinary role that combined mechanical design, CAD, and electrical integration. I led the development of the robot’s Ball Launcher System, beginning with intake geometry iterations in Fusion 360 to optimize compression, backspin, and shot repeatability. I refined the mechanism through multiple prototypes, testing variations in wheel spacing, hood curvature, and motor load to balance accuracy with cycle speed.
In addition to the mechanical work, I managed wiring for the entire subsystem—ensuring clean layouts, strain relief, and reliable power delivery under match conditions. Working across both mechanical and electrical roles helped me approach the robot as a fully integrated system. Early testing shows promising consistency, and I’m continuing to iterate on the design as we move into upcoming competitions.
